Event management apps in Tanzania at a glance
1. TukiohubOur product
Best for: Weddings, send-offs, conferences and any event with a guest list and michango
An all-in-one event management platform built in Tanzania. Organisers send digital invitation cards with QR codes over WhatsApp or SMS, collect RSVPs, track michango and pledge balances, set up ticket types and registration, check guests in by QR scan and message guests in bulk. Works in English and Kiswahili, in TZS, on the web and the Tukiohub mobile app.
2. Otapp
Best for: Selling tickets to public events with mobile money
A Tanzanian ticketing company whose app sells tickets for events, cinemas, buses and more. Buyers pay with mobile money and keep a QR ticket on their phone. Otapp also publishes OEvent, a separate app for event agents to manage bookings and attendee lists.
3. Tukiio
Best for: Ticketed events where some buyers use feature phones
A ticketing and registration platform from Dephics Company Limited in Dar es Salaam, which grew out of the TiME Tickets app. Attendees can buy or register on the website, in the app, or from a feature phone without internet, including group tickets.
4. Envaita
Best for: A done-for-you digital wedding card service
A Dar es Salaam start-up that sends digital wedding invitations over WhatsApp, with details sent to basic phones too. It tracks confirmations, provides the guest list, and its staff scan guests in at the venue.
5. FabiEvents
Best for: Tracking pledges for a single celebration
An app focused on communal fundraising for events such as weddings, letting the committee record pledges, payments and outstanding amounts.
6. Kariboo Events
Best for: Finding and booking vendors
An app from VGO aimed at the Tanzanian community for discovering event vendors, requesting quotes and making bookings. It is about suppliers rather than guests, so it pairs well with a guest-management tool.
7. Eventbrite
Best for: Public events marketed to an international audience
The global event ticketing and marketing platform. A strong choice when you are selling to visitors and an international crowd, but it is not designed around local traditions such as michango or committee-run weddings.
How to choose the right event app
Start with the kind of event you are running. Most events in Tanzania fall into one of two groups, and the best app is different for each.
- Invitation-only events - weddings, send-offs, kitchen parties, birthdays, church events, corporate dinners. You know your guests, you send them cards, you often collect michango, and you control the gate. You need invitations, RSVPs, pledge tracking and QR check-in in one place.
- Public, ticketed events - concerts, festivals, cinema, sports. Strangers buy tickets, so you need online sales with mobile money and wide distribution. A dedicated ticketing platform is the right tool.
- Conferences and registrations - workshops, summits, marathons. You need registration links, ticket types and fast check-in, plus a way to message attendees.
Questions to ask before you sign up
Whichever app you look at, these questions quickly show whether it fits how events work here.
- Can guests open their invitation or ticket from WhatsApp or SMS without installing anything?
- Does it track michango - who pledged, who has paid and who still owes - and send reminders?
- Can ushers check guests in from their own phones, and does it stop the same card being used twice?
- Does it handle amounts in Tanzanian shillings and work in Kiswahili?
- Can the whole committee or team work on the same event?
- Will you need to sell tickets online, or only issue invitations and passes?
Where Tukiohub fits
Tukiohub is built for organisers who know their guests: it combines invitation cards, RSVPs, michango tracking, ticket types, QR check-in and bulk SMS and WhatsApp messaging, so a wedding committee or event team runs everything from one dashboard instead of a notebook, a spreadsheet and three WhatsApp groups.
It does not sell tickets to the public online. If your event depends on strangers buying tickets with mobile money, a ticketing platform such as Otapp or Tukiio is the better fit - and you can still use Tukiohub alongside it for VIP invitations, guest lists and check-in.
We make Tukiohub, so we have listed it first - but we have tried to be fair about where each tool fits, including the jobs another app does better.
