What African event organisers actually need
Before comparing feature lists, check a platform against the realities of running events on the continent:
- WhatsApp and SMS delivery - invitations, tickets and reminders must reach guests where they read messages, with no app to install.
- Mobile money - M-Pesa, Airtel Money and similar wallets matter more than card payments for most guests.
- Community contributions - harambee, michango and family contributions are part of weddings, funerals and fundraisers across East Africa.
- Local currencies and languages - prices in shillings or naira and support for languages such as Kiswahili.
- Fast, phone-based check-in - QR scanning from ordinary smartphones, not rented hardware.
Ticketing platform or event management platform?
Ticketing platforms such as Quicket, Tix Africa and Mookh are built to sell tickets to the public. Event management platforms are built to organise everything around a known guest list. Many organisers need both: a ticketing platform for public sales, and an event management platform for VIP invitations, guest lists, contributions and check-in.
Tukiohub sits in the second group. It issues ticket types and QR passes and runs registration, but it does not process ticket sales to the public - so pair it with a ticketing platform if you sell to strangers.
We make Tukiohub, so we have listed it first - but we have tried to be fair about where each tool fits, including the jobs another app does better.
